TGIHenna by Ash Kumar at Bombay Brow Bar

The best way to end a cold Friday in an office is to get pampered… and so I did last night at my favourite (and only) brow place, Bombay Brow Bar.

Ravy at BBB was awesome to invite me to their VIP event featuring London’s Ash Kumar, who is probably the world’s most renowned henna artist. The hands that touched Julia Roberts, Madonna, and Demi Moore touched my arm as I got treated to a henna design. Don’t believe me? Check out Ash’s Celebrity Client page. I also got an unexpected bonus brow treatment from Raj at BBB. Those girls really know how to suck you in!

I learned from BBB partner Amy that Ash Kumar has the two-time Guinness World Record for being the world’s fastest henna artist; his website also says he’s trained other henna record-holders. Good lord, he was fast. In about 2 minutes he was done and I could barely leave with a good photo.

henna action jackson!

Penelope Sloan Design Launch Party

I scoped out this event on Facebook and as fate would have it, I got a lovely email from a woman named Penelope Sloan inviting me to review the launch party of her business. When I visited her website (penelopesloan.com), immediately I could see that Penelope Sloan was going to join the club of Vancouver’s smart, savvy businesswomen turning a talent into a business. I immediately jumped on the chance to go and coincidentally this was my first time at Tunnel Lounge.

Tunnel is cool – long and narrow, with lighted tables and giant screens that displayed pages of Penelope’s website and the sponsors that donated food and gift bag swag.

In my element at Reach Mag’s The Buzz Mixer

I wasn’t going to review this event because I am a huge supporter of Reach Magazine, which makes me a little biased, but I just felt I had to. I didn’t take any photos but they can be found on BC Business’s The Socialist blog in time; blogger Sheryl K. Yen was there taking pics of guests including myself. Believe me when I tell you there were a lot of fly looking people there.

The event was held last Friday August 13th at Joseph Richards Lounge, which was featured in a past issue of Reach. Guests got free drinks, and the first 50 people received gift bags from sponsors. The first hour or so was spent networking before a short lineup of speakers. I’d never been to the lounge when it was the Stone Temple, so I can’t really comment on whether or not it was better. It had an art deco flavour and there were some cool light fixtures. It was dark, but it IS a nightclub, and a little small for my taste, but a perfect venue for a business mixer with no more than about 100 attendees.
