Looking for fry fix @ Belgian Fries – “meh”

Sometimes you don’t realize how much you love something until you haven’t had it in a long time. Or if your relationship with that something or someone has taken a long time to develop and blossom into something beautiful. Such is my relationship with cupcakes. But there is a second food that I’ve come to realize I can’t live without either: FRENCH FRIES.
Since french fries come in such different forms, it’s hard to nail down a favourite: seasoned, thin cut, skin on or off, curly, sweet potato, or fat, like mojos. I guess you can say I’m still on the search for the perfect fry. So it finally came time to check out a place that’s been hailed by CBC as the best place for poutine: Belgian Fries.
Medium fries with honey mustard and Montreal smoked meat poutine
Belgian Fries has a big selection of dips, poutines, and even burgers. Bonus: They serve alcohol. I went for a medium size with the honey mustard dip (first dip is free). For a person my size, a medium was WAY too big. The dip was good, but the novelty of the honey mustard was lost by the time I was done. There was virtually no salt on the fries, which is healthy, but they just tasted…blah.
The boyfriend went all out with the Montreal smoked meat poutine, which looked pretty genuine – not like the chunks that I had in my poutine at La Belle Patate. But the poutines only come in Medium and Large, and so the medium was even too much for him.
I’ll definitely give Belgian Fries’s poutine a try in the future, but I wouldn’t bother coming back for the fries unless I was desperate for a fix.
Other favourite fries include:
Classic McDonald’s
Milestone’s curly fries
Fritz European Fry House poutine
Leo and I are also on the hunt for some fat mojos. So if you know of a place, comment or let me know via social media or email!
