A Night of Make Believe Fundraiser

It’s not often I go to fundraisers, but since this one is planned by one of my colleagues and sounds like a fun night to benefit a great charity, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share this event with you.

A Night of Make Believe

Organized by the 2011 Event Management Class at Kwantlen Polytechnic University
Tuesday, March 1st, 6:30pm
Dockside Restaurant on Granville Island

Join us for A Night of Make Believe for cocktails, appetizers, live music and a silent auction benefiting Small Talk Language Development Centre.

The Small Talk Language Development Centre in BC is a specialized early childhood intervention centre for children who have been diagnosed with language-based learning difficulties. As the pre-school years are some of the most important in a child’s life, the STLD Centre does some amazing and necessary work in our community. For more info, visit smalltalkbc.org.

For tickets and information, call Lesley Chang at 778-883-7197 or smalltalktickets@gmail.com.

See you there!

Satisfying Thai cravings at Kits’ Maenam

I’ve been dying to try out Maenam since I heard the words “Thai” and “Kits” associated with it. To survive in this area, you’ve got to live up to some expensive tastes, and since its opening, it’s gotten some good reviews by food critics.

The tipping point was when Leo tried out their latest food & beer pairing event, and said that all the food was good, even though it had coconut in it (he can’t stand it, unfortunately missing out on most of the great Thai food that coconut has to offer).

Part apartment, part school, part kitchen, and part wine cellar where a bunch of friends (the staff) hang out, eat and drink gourmet, while dancing (yes, they did dance) to music on Friday nights. Oh, and the place is a FROMAGERIE. Fromage = Cheese in French. So yeah, they specialize in cheese.

Though a small joint, you will feel the yuppie Yaletown vibe when you come in. I liked it for what it was.

Guys: Gudrun’s a major score if if you take date to this place and she hasn’t been – and especially if they (or you) know their favourite cheeses, ’cause I sure as hell didn’t and definitely needed some staff recommendations from our waiter Patrick.

***Update: Patrick isn’t just a waiter, he owns Gudrun. Would have known this sooner if I had taken a look at their Twitter profile! Thank you Patrick!

But, if you’re craving a steak ‘n potatoes type meal, dine out somewhere else in Richmond first and then come back here for cheese, wine, and maybe even dessert. And don’t complain about how much everything costs.
